Melba M. Colella, 93, of East Friendship Street, formerly of South Ashland Avenue, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at Golden Hill Nursing Home in New Castle. She was born March 6, 1920 in New Castle, a daughter of the late William and Theresa (Ciervo) Marotti. She was married to the late Vito F. Colella who died June 26, 2004. Mrs. Colella worked as a clerk at Strousses’ Department Store for many years. She was also co-owner of Vito Colella Market in Mahoningtown for over 30 years. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Parish and enjoyed baking and sewing and working puzzles.
She is survived by two sons, David A. Colella and wife Sharon of Boardman, OH, and Michael C. Colella and wife Roberta of New Castle, one sister, Olga Catalano of New Castle, and five grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Michael A. Colella, and two sisters, Rosline Toppo, and Florence Cioffi.
Visitation will be held at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue on Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 4 PM to 7 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 25, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Father Nick Vaskov of St. Vincent de Paul Church will be officiating. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in the St. Lucy Cemetery.
