Joan Hanna

Joan Hanna, 87, of Savannah Road, died Friday, July 3, 2026, at her residence in New Castle. She was born in Liverpool, England, on November 10, 1938, a daughter of the late George and Matilda (Saunders) Lawson. Mrs. Hanna was married to the late John E. ‘Cap’ Hanna, who died October 16, 2017. Joan worked at Hillview Manor Nursing Home, Golden Hill Nursing Home, Haven Nursing Home, and Shenango on the Green as a RN. She loved to go to the casino and gamble, and she also enjoyed crocheting. Above all, she loved her family and her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Scott R. Hanna and his wife Brenda of Edinburg, and Jonathan M. Hanna and his wife Debbie of New Castle, many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother, George Lawson, and one sister, Doreen Ross.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one son, Curtis G. Hanna, and two sisters, Rosemarie Beglin and Mary Maughan.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 2 PM to 4 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A funeral service will be celebrated Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Rev. Matthew Bupp will officiate.
