Paul V. Ward, Sr., 91, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, July 30, 2026. He was born in New Castle, on October 23, 1934, a son of the late Clarence and Rachel (Laury) Ward. Mr. Ward was married to the late Evelyn P. (Taylor) Ward, who died June 16, 2024, on their 69th wedding anniversary. Paul worked for LTV Steel after retiring 38 years, and then worked as a counselor for YDC, retiring after 25 years. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP, where he served as the vice president and treasurer, and he was the oldest living member of the Pennsylvania Legal Services Board. He was also a member of Second Baptist Church. Paul was a very family orientated man, he not only enjoyed spending time with his family, but he also enjoyed playing cards, smoking cigars, telling jokes, playing lottery numbers, and gardening. Paul was also a Cleveland Brown fan. Above all, Paul enjoyed being the New Castle taxicab for anyone that needed a ride.
He is survived by two daughters, Alesia ‘Lisa’ Ward of New Castle, and Anita ‘Neet Neet’ Ward of Charlotte, NC, one brother, Meryle Ward, Sr., eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three sons, Paul V. Ward, Jr., David M. Ward, and Aubrey E. Ward, three brothers, Clarence Ward, Richard Ward and Chester Ward, three sisters, Naomi Gatewood, Doris Ward ‘Hannon’, and Clarissa Irvin, and one grandson, Victor Ward.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 7, 2026, from 11 AM to 1 PM, at Second Baptist Church, 537 Bell Avenue, New Castle, PA, 16101. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue.
