Richard A. DePorzio, 86, of Jackson Avenue, died Sunday, December 14, 2025, at UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle. He was born on March 13, 1939, in New Castle, a son of the late Louis and Julia (Mastroddi) DePorzio, Sr. Mr. DePorzio was a United States Navy Veteran, serving as a land and sea rescue helicopter pilot. He worked for Operators Engineer Local #66 and was owner/operator of Hickory 4 Wheel Drive Center for 20 years. Richard then was a teacher for Lawrence County Vo-tech for multiple shops, and he retired after 17 years from Mercer County Corrections as a Plumbing and Carpentry Shop Teacher. Richard enjoyed gardening, cooking, and rebuilding hotrods. He also enjoyed playing golf, bocci, and bowling.

He is survived by two children, Rick A. DePorzio of New Castle, and Renee N. Hartwell of New Wilmington, PA, two grandchildren, Daniel Hartwell and Anna Knecht, and one brother, Louis DePorzio, Jr.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Ronald DePorzio.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 19, 2025, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the William F. & Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. A Funeral Liturgy Outside of Mass will be celebrated Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 12:00 PM at the William F. DeCarbo Memorial Chapel. Deacon John Carran will officiate. New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Rites are the chapel before the Funeral Liturgy Outside of Mass. Burial will be in Parkside Cemetery.
