William "Bill" Jenkins of New Castle passed away the afternoon of August 21st in his home surrounded by his family. Born in Butler on September 16, 1934, Bill was less than a month shy of his 92nd birthday. His wife of 65 years, Patricia "Pat" Jenkins, died July 5th 2025. His parents, William Jenkins and Irene Gorst Jenkins preceded him in death.
Due to his mother's illness, at the age of 5, Bill went to live in the home of his best friend Ovidio "Sonny" DeVitto and his family. Due to his mother's lingering illness, he then lived at The Margaret Henry Children's Home for 5 years. He had many fond memories of the home and the friends he made there but most especially of Mom Green who ran the home and who he loved very much.
At the age of 17, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and was Honorably Discharged on July 14th, 1960. Upon returning to New Castle, Bill went to work as a locomotive fireman and then a locomotive engineer for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad Company which later became Conrail, retiring after 38 years. Bill loved working on the railroad, everything about trains, and riding motorcycles across the country in his early years, country music and having "ONE MORE" with his buddies.
Bill was the oldest and last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Don and David (in infancy) and 2 sisters, Janet and Marilyn.
Surviving is his daughter, Jodi Cugini and her husband Perry. Son, William "Billy" Jenkins and his wife Maryann. All of New Castle. His grandson, Michael Cugini and his wife Dana of Oakland, FL. Two granddaughters, Julie Cugini and John "JJ" Birtalan of New Castle and Megan Jenkins and Nick Bruni of San Diego, CA. Two great grandchildren, Scarlett and Elio Cugini of Oakland, FL. His faithful companion and protective dog, Minnie. And his sister-in-law, Shirley Trott of West Pittsburg and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald "Jerry" Jenkins and a grandson Gino V. Cugini.
The family wishes to thank the awesome staff at Three Rivers Hospice. In keeping with Bill's wishes, there will be no services.
Arrangements are being handled by William F. and Roger M. DeCarbo Funeral Home, 926 Cunningham Avenue. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery with his wife and son.
